A Celebration of Epic Cycling and Alpine Beauty
On June 29th, La Fausto Coppi Granfondo invites cyclists from across the globe to experience one of Europe’s most iconic cycling events. With a 35-year legacy, this event is far more than a race—it’s a celebration of sport, nature, culture, and community, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Cuneo’s majestic Alps in Piedmont, Italy.
Participants can choose from three distinct routes, each offering a unique challenge, from the grueling Granfondo to the more leisurely Fauniera Classic. The official race jersey is mandatory during the event and serves as an ambassador of Cuneo worldwide. Representing nearly 70 nations, cyclists and their supporters create an atmosphere of unity and camaraderie, amplified by a colorful parade of flags in Cuneo’s historic streets.
La Fausto Coppi is not just about cycling—it’s a movement to preserve alpine roads through its “Save the Mountain Roads” initiative, foster inclusivity by involving volunteers with disabilities, and contribute to the local economy, drawing thousands of visitors to Cuneo. Anchored in Piazza Galimberti, the event’s vibrant village features exhibitions of regional excellence, making it a true celebration of the territory.
Cycling history, social impact, and the joy of riding amidst awe-inspiring landscapes await those who join this extraordinary event. Are you ready to pedal your way into a piece of cycling legend?
The Routes
Each route promises a unique blend of physical challenge and the unparalleled beauty of the Piedmontese Alps. With technical descents, scenic valleys, and historic climbs, participants are guaranteed an unforgettable day of cycling.
1. Granfondo Route (177 km, 4,125 m) (110 mi, 13,500 ft)
The ultimate challenge awaits riders on this legendary route, beginning in Piazza Galimberti, Cuneo. The Granfondo covers four iconic climbs, starting with the 9.6 km ascent of Valmala, followed by La Piatta Soprana (9.5 km), and culminating in the Colle Fauniera—a 22.3 km test of endurance that reaches 2,481 meters. The reward? Breathtaking views of the Cottian Alps. The final ascent, Madonna del Colletto, 7.3 km, prepares cyclists for a triumphant descent back to Cuneo.
2. Mediofondo Route (111 km, 2,550 m) (69 mi, 8370 ft)
For those seeking a robust yet accessible challenge, the Mediofondo begins with the same fanfare in Cuneo but diverges early to tackle two iconic climbs. Riders will conquer the Colle Fauniera and Madonna del Colletto, experiencing a condensed version of the alpine grandeur. This route is perfect for riders who desire a significant challenge without the full length of the Granfondo.
3. Fauniera Classic (101 km, 2,187 m) (63 mi, 7,180 ft)
The Fauniera Classic offers a more relaxed, non-competitive experience, designed for those who want to savor the majestic scenery of the region. The route includes the Colle Fauniera and a picturesque passage through the military road in the Stura Valley. Riders will reconnect with the Mediofondo route for a shared finish in Cuneo, making it an excellent choice for cyclists who prioritize exploration over competition.
