The Routes

The L'Étape Parma takes you on a 87-mile (140-kilometer) adventure through the captivating Emilia-Romagna region. Starting in the vibrant city of Parma, the route blends technical challenges with breathtaking scenery, featuring picturesque vineyards, historic castles, and the legendary Cavatappi climb—a 2.2-mile (3.5-kilometer) stretch of twisting roads with an average gradient of 12% and peaks of 16%. Nicknamed the “corkscrew” (or tirabuson in the Parma dialect) by local cyclists, this iconic climb is as thrilling as it is demanding.

With over 6,560 feet (2,000 meters) of elevation gain, this course offers a rewarding challenge for cyclists of all levels. Whether climbing through lush Apennine landscapes or enjoying the well-organized rest stops along the way, the event is a perfect fusion of sport, culture, and gastronomy.
