Day-by-Day Cycling Itinerary

Day
1
Welcome to the Land of Venice

From the medieval city of Treviso, you begin your gravel adventure by heading east towards the Adriatic coast. Your route winds through vineyard lanes, riverside paths and rolling gravel stretches, the sea air becoming more pronounced as you approach the coast. The mix of inland tranquillity and coastal breeze sets the tone for your journey: Veneto gravel cycling at its finest. Arriving in the charming fishing town of Caorle,  check into your seaside accommodations, then enjoy a relaxing evening stroll through the town with pastel-coloured houses, the ancient harbour and the landmark striped lighthouse.

Inland Exploration and Natural Parks

Today, you set off from your base of Caorle with a choice of two gravel loop options. A longer loop runs inland through the dune-and-pine-forest belt of the lagoon hinterland to Portogruaro. A shorter ride follows the Livenza and Lemene rivers back to Caorle for an afternoon seaside aperitivo and fresh fish-and-wine dinner.

From Caorle to Chioggia – Crossing the Venice Lagoon

Depart early from Caorle and ride into the heart of the lagoon zone. A short ferry ride from Punta Sabbioni takes you to the famous Lido di Venezia, home of the Venice Film Festival. Continue along the quiet bike paths of the neighbouring island of Pellestrina, a narrow island mostly devoid of car traffic that provides a unique vantage of lagoon life. Your destination is the delightful fishing town of Chioggia (often called the “Little Venice”), with its canals, colourful boats, atmospheric seafood trattorias and evening canal-side strolls. Overnight in a beautiful historic hotel right on the waterfront.

The Gravel Paradise at the Delta of Italy’s Longest River

Today, you dive into the expansive wetlands and rural lanes of the Po Delta Regional Park. You’ll ride part or all of the famed “Via delle Valli” cycling path — a network of flat to gently undulating gravel and dirt roads that meander past suspended fishing nets, embanked dykes and marshlands.

You can choose a full loop ride exploring the remotest zones, or a lighter option that still immerses you in this exceptional natural environment. Expect rich birdlife (herons, flamingos, marsh waders), expansive skies, and the quiet hum of rural delta life. In the evening, a final aperitivo on the Canal Vena or along the bustling Corsa del Popolo in Chioggia rounds off the day beautifully.

From the Lagoon to the Volcanic Hills

After breakfast, you depart from the lagoon area and head inland past the small towns of Bovolenta & Pontelongo into the foothills of the Colli Euganei, ancient volcanic hills rising from the Venetian plain. This is the so-called Salt and Sugar Way, along which river boats once transported these raw goods to the Venice Lagoon. Your destination is the medieval village of Arquà Petrarca, a picture-postcard location with stone buildings, narrow alleys, local trattorias and wine bars. You stay in a luxury guest-house, with thermal spa options nearby (a hallmark of the Euganei area).

Volcanic Hills Gravel Exploration

This final full riding day gives you a choice of distances and challenge levels. Expect steeper gravel climbs if you opt to explore more deeply into the hills. A flatter option brings you out to the perfectly preserved medieval walled town of Montagnana from Arqua Petrarcha Your final night in Arquà Petrarca allows you to linger in the volcanic hills' ambience, enjoy regional cuisine (asiago cheese, prosecco, Euganei wines) and reflect on your ride.

Land of Venice Arrivederci

On your final day, you savour the last encounters with Veneto’s varied landscapes: from volcanic hills back to the plain, or simply a leisurely departure depending on your schedule. Enjoy a final regional breakfast, perhaps a stroll through the village, and prepare for your onward travel or flight home. The ride may be light or omitted depending on your departure time, but the memory of seven days of gravel adventure from Treviso, across lagoon, delta and hills, will stay with you.
