I was more than satisfied and had a terrific time. The riding, routes, hotels, the Giro watching spots, dinner spots…all top notch. It felt very "bespoke" without being stuffy. Bob and Caterina and Puppers…Italy’s best hosts. I will return…Stelvio next!

"CyclingHero: really, the best cycling experience of my life, bar none."

"If you want to book a cycling trip in Italy in the Dolomites and Prosecco Hills region, then CyclingHero is the tour company for you! The personal touch and attention to detail will allow you to enjoy your vacation and experience the Italian culture."

"What a great trip! We were comfortable from start to finish with the itinerary, logistics, routes, directions, app, places to go post-ride, etc. What an experience. Across the board it was awesome and we are planning on taking another tour."

"This CyclingHero adventure was absolutely amazing - I saw parts of Italy that I'd never likely see during a normal tourist visit, all while doing what I love more than anything - cycling! The terrain was incredible, the vistas unforgettable, and the organizers are highly experienced, and thus have thought through all the fine details of a cycling adventure of this sort."

"Everything a cycling trip should be with a twist of technology!"

"What an incredible experience. High end, fantastic hotels, and incredible scenery. I love the concept. I'm not one for organized events with people that I don't know. There can be too much starting, stopping, waiting, and indecision when you have a group of different people of different abilities that don't know each other."

"The selection of hotels, bars and restaurants recommended were top notch, and the whole trip was delivered at a great price considering the high-end nature of the itinerary."

"Without a doubt, the CyclingHero tour was the best cycling week of my 20+ years of cycling. A real challenge, but perfectly curated, and with excellent support throughout the trip."

"The itinerary was very well thought out and rides built on each other, culminating in a spectacular climb of the Monte Grappa. A memorable experience - highly recommended!"
Day-by-Day Cycling Itinerary

From Siena to Gaiole: the Heart of Chianti
Leaving the UNESCO Heritage town of Siena, you quickly join the official Eroica route and sample your first stretch of white gravel at Montechiaro. Next, the Pianella uphill gravel sector rewards you with panoramic views over Chianti’s rolling vineyards. A paved climb brings you to Radda in Chianti, a medieval village with breathtaking vistas of the Val di Pesa. One last stretch of white road descends into Gaiole, where your stunning castle accommodations await. A perfect start to your Tuscany gravel adventure.
Iconic Strade Bianche & Monte Sante Marie
Departing from Gaiole, your route rejoins the official Eroica path, leading to one of Tuscany’s most iconic landmarks: Brolio Castle. A stop at the Eroica Café provides a welcome energy boost for the final gravel climb to the castle. After conquering this challenge, continue through the charming towns of Castelnuovo Berardenga before tackling the spectacular and demanding Monte Sante Marie gravel sector, featured in both the Eroica and Strade Bianche races. Your day concludes in historic Asciano, the largest town in the Crete Senesi, where you can enjoy a well-earned meal in one of its exceptional regional restaurants.
From Asciano to Pienza – Val d’Orcia & Montepulciano
After a gentle start on paved roads, the gravel returns as you pass through Buonconvento and enter the stunning Val d’Orcia. Ride steadily uphill through Lucignano d’Asso, an olive oil town set along some of the most breathtaking white roads in Tuscany. A final paved stretch leads to the UNESCO Heritage site of Pienza.
If your legs allow, take a detour to visit the renowned wine town of Montepulciano before tackling the final climb into Pienza. Spend the evening wandering this enchanting hilltop town and soaking in its panoramic Tuscan vistas.
Back to Siena – Magic Routes & Brunello di Montalcino Vineyards
For your triumphant return to Siena, you’ll ride exceptional gravel roads through some of Tuscany’s most iconic landscapes. Shortly after leaving Pienza, the first gravel stretch winds through the rolling hills of Crete Senesi. It connects with the historic Via Francigena pilgrimage route, leading to the UNESCO Heritage town of San Quirico d’Orcia. Continue along gravel tracks through the vineyards of Brunello di Montalcino before arriving in Buonconvento.
For those ready for a challenge, a detour allows a closer look at Montalcino before rejoining the main route. The home stretch follows the Strada Bianca Murlo–Siena, a celebrated sector of both the Eroica and Strade Bianche. The final uphill climb brings you back into Siena and the iconic Piazza del Campo—an unforgettable finish to a true Tuscan gravel adventure. Check into your hotel nearby and savour the satisfaction of completing this epic loop.
