Warm-up in the Veneto Training Ground

The road from Treviso to the north offers a perfect warm-up before reaching the Montello, a forested hillside that is a favourite with cyclists from the area. The Montello offers a variety of options, from the basically flat perimeter to some very steep ‘Prese’ access roads. We choose the middle way and take the more gently climbing “Dorsale” up to the highest point of the Montello, Santa Maria della Vittoria.

Exiting the Montello at Montebelluna there is time for a quick refreshment in town before heading up to the Mercato Vecchio and onward toward the unique hills of the ‘Colli Asolani’. The last challenge of the day is the climb into Asolo itself, named the “city of a hundred horizons” and ranked as one of the most beautiful towns in Italy.

A Taste of Grappa

The day starts out with a beautiful tour of the Colli Asolani around Monfumo. Reaching Semonzo, it's time to decide: battle up the 18 km and 1500 m that is the Monte Grappa, or keep going past Bassano to take on the ‘San Luca’ and ‘La Rosina’ climbs above Marostica, both favorites with the local pros. Whichever option you choose, it’s a mostly flat run from Bassano back to Asolo.

Prosecco and a Passo

It’s time to say goodbye to the Colli Asolani and venture into the heart of the Prosecco Valley. Before leaving the area, however, an option with a little more climbing brings you to the Canova monument above the town of Possagno, before rejoining the regular route as it meanders Eastward through beautiful forestland.

Crossing the Piave river the route runs by Valdobbiadene, the ground zero of the Prosecco wine industry. From here the Prosecco region and its countless vine-clad hills and vistas begin in earnest. After passing by the impressive hilltop Castel Brando, you have a decision to make: head back into the Prosecco Hills and on to your accommodations in Soligo, or take on the Passo San Boldo challenge first. Not the hardest or longest of climbs in Italy, the San Boldo must surely rank as one of the most spectacular, with the last switchbacks literally carved into the mountains.
