Prosecco wine needs no introduction. Bubbly, affordable, and fun, it can be found in abundance virtually anywhere in the world. But what is more of an insider secret is that this wine region and the nearby Asolo Hills are a paradise for gravel riding.
After hosting the Gravel World Championships in 2023, the word is starting to get out about the gravel to be had in the Prosecco region. The unpaved access roads of the vine clad hills offer both a variety of riding challenges and truly stunning views. And of course this being a wine region, there is no shortage of informal country ‘Osterie’ Restaurants to replenish your energies along the way.
It's almost like this region was conceived for off-road exploring. Get a taste before everyone else does.

I was more than satisfied and had a terrific time. The riding, routes, hotels, the Giro watching spots, dinner spots…all top notch. It felt very "bespoke" without being stuffy. Bob and Caterina and Puppers…Italy’s best hosts. I will return…Stelvio next!
"CyclingHero: really, the best cycling experience of my life, bar none."
"If you want to book a cycling trip in Italy in the Dolomites and Prosecco Hills region, then CyclingHero is the tour company for you! The personal touch and attention to detail will allow you to enjoy your vacation and experience the Italian culture."
"What a great trip! We were comfortable from start to finish with the itinerary, logistics, routes, directions, app, places to go post-ride, etc. What an experience. Across the board it was awesome and we are planning on taking another tour."
"This CyclingHero adventure was absolutely amazing - I saw parts of Italy that I'd never likely see during a normal tourist visit, all while doing what I love more than anything - cycling! The terrain was incredible, the vistas unforgettable, and the organizers are highly experienced, and thus have thought through all the fine details of a cycling adventure of this sort."
"Everything a cycling trip should be with a twist of technology!"
"What an incredible experience. High end, fantastic hotels, and incredible scenery. I love the concept. I'm not one for organized events with people that I don't know. There can be too much starting, stopping, waiting, and indecision when you have a group of different people of different abilities that don't know each other."
"The selection of hotels, bars and restaurants recommended were top notch, and the whole trip was delivered at a great price considering the high-end nature of the itinerary."
"Without a doubt, the CyclingHero tour was the best cycling week of my 20+ years of cycling. A real challenge, but perfectly curated, and with excellent support throughout the trip."
"The itinerary was very well thought out and rides built on each other, culminating in a spectacular climb of the Monte Grappa. A memorable experience - highly recommended!"
Day-to-Day Schedule
Leaving Treviso, it’s not long before the pavement ends as the route winds through farmlands until reaching the Montello, a key strategic battlefield of World War I that has become a haven for road, gravel and mountain bike riders from the area. If you’re feeling up to it, head into the Montello itself for a bit of uphill before crossing the Piave River and exploring the Isola dei Morti, scene of one of the fiercest battles of WWI.
A climb up to Collalto rewards with fantastic views of the region before continuing on through picturesque Pieve di Soligo, host of the 2023 Gravel World Championships and the ideal place to have an afternoon pick-me-up before the last short stretch to your accommodations in the town of Soligo.
Leaving Soligo, you are soon immersed in the spectacular vistas of the Eastern Prosecco Hills. The route incorporates several sections used for the 2023 Gravel World Championships, including the beautiful Via Molinetto and past the spectacular Castelbrando castle. After passing by the picturesque lake of Revine, you descend into Vittorio Veneto, a vibrant town where Italy won the decisive victory that brought WWI to a close.
Alternatively, for those interested in challenges and unique road engineering, make a quick detour first and take on the Passo San Boldo. After passing through Conegliano and its hilltop castle, the route heads back into the vineyards for your return to Soligo.
The day starts with a flat gravel road to Sernaglia della Battaglia, after which you can head straight to the capital of Prosecco, Valdobbiadene, or first hit some of the steep uphills typical of the Prosecco region. Leaving Valdobbiadene, it’s time to cross back over the Piave River and follow it downstream before entering the verdant Colli Asolani.
Take a challenging detour here to tackle the Forcella Mostaccin, or continue on for a final picturesque push into the hilltop village of Asolo, also known as Cento Orizzonti ‘town of 100 vistas’ for its spectacular location.
Today is an epic gravel odyssey that takes in several lovely towns as it explores the riding along the Brenta River. First stop is Cittadella, a town that is famous both for its perfectly preserved fortification walls, and for it being the finish line of the inaugural UCI Gravel World Championships in 2022.
The route then enters gravel heaven along the Brenta before reaching Marostica, whose large main square is the location for the human chess competition which runs every two years in September.
Last stop on the ride is Bassano del Grappa, known for both its strong spirit and the fantastic riding to be found in its vicinity, including the epic Monte Grappa. One last climb has you back in Asolo where Aperitivo on the main square awaits.
After a last breakfast, it’s time to head back to Treviso or Venice for your trip home or further explorations in the area.
