Day-by-Day Cycling Itinerary
From Sestri Levante to Levanto
After a morning pick-up in Parma, you’ll transfer to one of Italy's most picturesque stretches of the Mediterranean. Begin your adventure in the charming seaside town of Sestri Levante, famed for its stunning twin bays.
The more challenging ride starts at sea level, gradually climbing into the coastal hills before descending into Framura where it joins the coastal bike path converted from the old rail line. The route concludes in the historic town of Levanto, known for its medieval center and beautiful beach.
There is also the option to start further up in Mattarana for a shorter ride with less climbing.
Exploring the Cinque Terre
Starting in Levanto, your route climbs into the hills of the Cinque Terre, offering breathtaking coastal views. You’ll pass through a landscape of ancient terraced vineyards, connecting scenic villages via a mix of quiet paved roads and cycling-friendly paths.
After descending into the colorful fishing village of Manarola, you can choose to continue riding or enjoy a scenic train ride back to Levanto.
Levanto to Pontremoli via Val di Vara
A steady climb out of Levanto takes you into the stunning Val di Vara. After cresting the high point at Calzavitella, you’ll enjoy a gradual descent to the Tuscan town of Pontremoli, a medieval gem known for its Castello del Piagnaro.
For those seeking a challenge, an optional detour over the Passo della Mola rewards with views of the French Maritime Alps.
From Pontremoli to Tabiano Castello via the Cisa Pass
Leaving Pontremoli, the route takes you along a quieter road to the challenging Cisa Pass, rewarding you with sweeping views before a descent into the picturesque stone town of Berceto. From there, you'll join the ancient pilgrimage trail of the Via Francigena, descending to the Taro River valley and finishing the day at your castle abode in Tabiano Castello.
For a gentler ride, you can skip the initial climb and start your journey in Berceto.
Relaxation or Rolling Countryside Rides
Today is an opportunity to unwind and make the most of the spa facilities at your hotel. For those who wish to keep riding, a couple of loop routes are available, offering a chance to explore the beautiful rolling countryside and tranquil roads of the region.
Into Parma and Pre-Race Preparations
Today’s ride is mostly downhill as you leave the foothills of the Apennines for the flat expanse of the Po Valley. Crossing the Taro River once again, the route takes you along peaceful roads into the historic city of Parma.
After arriving, you’ll pick up your race pack and have the afternoon to soak in the lively atmosphere of the Expo Village or relax at your hotel in preparation for the big day.
Arrivederci from Parma
Your cycling journey comes to a close, but there’s still much to explore in the lands of the Food Valley and Motor Valley. Whether you’re drawn to culinary delights or cultural experiences, talk to us about extending your trip with some unforgettable off-the-bike adventures.
